A Study on the Power Reduction Techniques in PON System

(in English) PON (Passive Optical Network) achieves FTTH (Fiber To The Home) economically, by sharing an optical fiber between plural subscribers. Currently, 1Gbps class PONs are widely spread. Recently, global climate change is expected as a serious problem in near future. Power reduction in electrical devices are demanded. Power reduction technologies are studied also for communication equipment. In this paper, we introduces the standardization activities regarding the PON power reduction scheme and give a consideration for the system deployment.
