Focusing on antenna installation, one of the most serious problems is the limitation on installation space for additional antennas at Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites. Many branch multi-antennas are required to upgrade the current 3G system to the MIMO system. This manuscript proposes MIMO-VS (MIMO with a Vertically Split) antenna, using an array that is split vertically. The MIMO-VS antenna can increase the number of MIMO branches without increasing the antenna installation space and without reducing the 3G coverage area. The effectiveness is evaluated based on the results of the distance property considering the antenna gain and the spatial correlation. Additionally, a system evaluation using ray-tracing simulation is performed. |
