Visual Illusion and Aesthetic Preference

(in English) We quantitatively measured the effect of geometrical illusions and examined whether any correlation between the illusion strength and aesthetic preference existed. Müller-Lyer and Ebbinghaus illusions were tested in this study. Aesthetic preference was measured separately as evaluations on beauty and preference. The results show no correlation between the illusion strength and the aesthetic preference against a previous report demonstrating the correlation employing Botti-type illusions. Not all geometrical-illusions show the illusion-aesthetics correlation.
