[Invited Talk] Speech signal decomposition based on auditory information representations -- How to represent deviations from periodicity --
Hideki Kawahara (Wakayama Univ.) SP2010-73
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Persistent effort for aiming reconstruction of speech processing technologies based on perceptually relevant auditory representations resulted in a speech analysis, modification and resynthesis system STRAIGHT. Invention of a temporally stable representation of power spectra of periodic signals called TANDEM and introduction of a new formulation of sampling theory called consistent sampling made completely independent implementation possible and yielded TANDEM-STRAIGHT. However, speech signals are not purely periodic and those discrepancy from pure periodicity plays important roles in communication. This article tries to review such deviations in terms of perceptual effects and discusses on feasible engineering solutions.
