Loss-Recovery Method on Content Pre-distribution in VoD Service

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To reduce the peak load of content server, the authors have proposed to multicast popular content to all users independently of user requests, in addition to deliver content on demand. However, recovery method for lost packets has not been investigated. In this paper, we propose a loss-recovery method suited for multicast pre-distribution VoD system. Because a large part of content items pre-distributed to STBs are not viewed by users, we propose to deliver just lost packets in the requested content item on demand at the time of each user request. Using the access log data of actual VoD system, we compare the proposed method with existing loss-recovery methods for multicast delivery and clarify the superiority of the proposed method.
