Read/write channel modeling using a discrete Voronoi diagram is studied for two-dimensional magnetic recording. The simple closed-form representation of reader sensitivity function with fitting parameters given by linear combinations of geometry parameters of head and medium is proposed for modeling the reading process. These fitting parameters are optimized by using a real-coded genetic algorithm. It is clarified that the closed-form representation using a hyperbolic tangent function provides a good approximation to an accurate sensitivity function based on a two-dimensional finite element method and a surfacing modification. Furthermore, the signal-to-noise ratio is also calculated by using a readback waveform obtained from the constructed read/write channel model under a shingled magnetic recording spec of $4\:\rm{Tb/in^{2}}$. |
