Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Animals continuously collect and process information on the enviroment, e.g. luminance, temperature and chemical concentration, and translate them into proper behavioral actions. In particular, chemotaxis is the phenomenon in which animals direct their movements in response to concentration gradient of chemoattractants. In this study, we statistically analyzed the chemotaxis mechanisms in Drosophila larvae by composing hidden malkov models describing discreate transitions between forward and rotary motions in the chemotaxis. Here, this model was built under the assumption that a transition probability from forward to rotary motions can be formulated as a formal neuron model containing a moving average (MA) filter entered time sequence of chemical concentrations. Then, by using chemotaxis data measured from {\it CantonS }(wild type) and {\it Or83b} (olfactory mutant), we estimated its model parameters with Baum-Welch algorithm and we selected the lenght of the MA filter with Akaike information criteria. In the case of wild types, the length of estimated filters was one or two, and espcially in second-order filters, time differential filters were extracted. On the other hand, in the case of olfactory mutants, the length of estimated filters was zero, which suggests that the mutants use no information of odorant.
