A phase-shifter IC with 810° control range was fabricated using InP HBTs. The phase shifter includes a wideband vector modulator and a pseudo-sine generator that enables linear phase control with only one control voltage. A quadrature splitter using polyphase filter with Cherry-Hooper amplifiers enables wideband vector modulation. A bandwidth
boosting technique at an output stage increases the operation frequency and reduces the output-amplitude variation. Small phase shifts are observed for power voltage and temperature variations by using PVT compensation circuit. This innovative design approach is promising for the phase shifters in wireless and optical communication systems. |
