Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Switch of transport direction and junction in a noncontact ultrasonic transporter is discussed. A 0.5-mm-thick aluminum circular plate with a diameter of 30 mm was employed as a vibrating plate and a 0.5-mm-thick piezoelectric ring was attached to the vibrating plate by epoxy. The configuration of the vibrator was determined through a finite element analysis (FEA) so that (1, 4) and (2, 3) flexural vibration modes were generated at 47.8 and 64.9 kHz, respectively, using divided electrodes. The (1, 4) flexural mode enables noncontact trapping and transportation of a small object in the circumferential direction, and the (2, 3) mode assists the transfer through a junction. The reflecting plate was installed parallel to the vibrator with a distance of approximately 5 mm to generate an acoustic standing wave in air between them. The acoustic field between the vibrator and reflector was calculated via the FEA, and the distribution of the acoustic radiation force acting to a small rigid particle was calculated to predict the trapped position of the particle and the direction of ejection. By using a prototype of the vibrating plate, polystyrene particles with the diameter of several millimeters could be ejected in the radial direction between the vibrator and reflector by changing the vibration mode. The ejecting force acting on the particle in the horizontal direction was estimated to be 3.51×$10^{-6}$ N.
