We have presented a new analysis method of the echo signal for the purpose of the quantitative estimation of the liver fibrosis. On the assumption that the echo signal from fibrotic liver is composed of reflected signals from normal and fibrotic tissues, we proposed the model in which the amplitude distribution of the echo signal is expressed by combining two Rayleigh distributions. Using this model, we are able to obtain the quantity and stage of fibrotic degeneration of liver from statistics of the echo amplitude as an inverse problem, and presented the possibility of quantitative estimation of fibrosis liver. In this technique, it is important to know how much this model can express actual data. In this paper, we evaluate the accuracy of approximation of the amplitude distribution model for fibrotic liver. The Kullback Leibler (KL) divergence was used as an index of the accuracy of approximation of distribution. ROI set on the clinical image data was moved, and the accuracy of approximation on the entire image was evaluated. As a result, it became clear that the proposed model can be approximated from a normal liver to a cirrhotic liver when there are neither a blood vessel nor tissue boundaries. |
