A hydrophone calibration system based on a reflection method using a combination of an optical interferometer and an air-backed pellicle was developed. The developed system features no acousto-optic effect, easy alignment and twofold sensitivity. A membrane hydrophone with a 0.4 mm diameter active element was calibrated using the new reflection method and the conventional transmission method in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 20 MHz. The calibration results obtained using the developed method agreed well with those obtained using the conventional method. It was also shown the developed system provides more stable high-frequency measurements than the conventional one. |
