Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this report, we propose a rapid and high-quality in-air acoustic imaging system. The system includes a 1-dimensional array of 16 ultrasonic sensors, 2 ultrasonic transmitters, and a processing unit with a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). To perform high-speed acoustic imaging, parallel processing of image reconstruction algorithm is designed and implemented in the FPGA. To obtain high-quality images, the image reconstruction procedure is performed based on synthetic transmit aperture (STA) approach. This system can reconstruct an image within 240 milliseconds. Since the system is able to rapidly reconstruct images, the sequence of obtained images can be used for real-time application such as object tracking application.
