Development of Multilingual Conversation Presumption Support Systems using Utterance Visualization

(in English) Language differences pose significant barriers to multilingual communications. To understand others' conversation needs to understand others' language. It is difficult to join someone's conversation in different language.Therefore, we have developed conversation components visualization systems, using Augmented Reality(AR), 3D online virtual space Second Life, a webcam and a video projector. We visualize three conversation related components: text, image, and feeling. From the results of the fisrt experiment, we found that the voice and the body
movement of interlocutors can influence presuming of conversation. We found that the system using augmented reality provide conversation presumption support better than that in Second Life. From the results of the second experiment, we found that the ease of the relation between interlocutors and visualized data can influence presuming of conversation. We found that the system using a webcam provide conversation presumption support better than that using a video projector.
