Study on Influence of Channel Mismatch to Realize Cellular System with Dynamic Cell Forming Technology

(in English) Improving cell edge throughput has become important as well as peak data rate toward IMT- Advanced. Authors proposed dynamic cell forming technology which base station antennas are chosen optimally in aspects of propagation loss. The proposed technology can achieve that geographical Shannon capacity distribution is more flat and the cell edge throughput is 150% greater than conventional cellular systems. In this technical report, authors study a scheme of realization of proposed technology under the LTE specifications. The issue to be solved is that LTE specifications prevent arbitrary antennas selection across multiple cells for each mobile terminal. Authors assume system operation with single cell ID in order to solve the antennas selection issue. When the system is operated by single cell ID, the same pilot signal for downlink is transmitted by multiple antennas which provide different data signals. As a result, channel estimation error occurs due to channel mismatch between data signal and pilot signal. In this technical report, authors estimate the amount of throughput degradation due to channel mismatch. Authors estimate that mobile terminals can achieve 70% to 84% throughput against the condition of channel matching ideally.
