Size Reduction of Microstrip Resonator using Interdigital Capacitor Loading

(in English) In our previous paper, we reported on a high-Q microstrip resonator using double open stubs with $\lambda$/4±$\delta$ length. This half-wave-length resonator can adjust the coupling between the resonator and external circuit by only determining the length $\delta$ (<< $\lambda$/4), while the high reproducibility and controlability of resonator performance is assured by the direct coupling. In this paper, we report on techniques to reduce the size of the microstrip resonator using interdigital capacitor loading in order to enhance the applicability of the unique resonator in MMICs. We discuss the performance of quarter-wave-length resonator with the same design scheme as in the above half-wave-length resonator. We further discuss the design guideline of reducing the size of microstrip line beyond the quarter-wave-length limit using capacitor loading. It is shown that using higher impedance microstrip line enables us to use smaller size of capacitor, which is particularly important in avoiding self-resonance in interdigital capacitors. Up to around 50% size reduction of quarter-wave-length stub is demonstrated through EM analysis simulations and experiments.
