Performance Evaluation of Statistical Static Timing Analysis Using Gaussian Mixture Models

(in English) With the progress of micro-technology, the within die process variability is increasing, and the statistical static timing analysis (S-STA) has attracted designers’ attentions. We have proposed an S-STA algorithm representing any delay distribution by a Gaussian mixture model, which can handle any correlation, non-Gaussian distributions, and slew distributions easily. However, the previous method of computing the statistical maximum (Max operation) for Gaussian mixture models has a possibility that the shape of the generated distribution may be different from that of the real distribution. To overcome this problem, we devised a new Max operation method which takes the cumulative distribution function curve into consideration. In this paper, we report the performance evaluation of this new method, and show that the accuracy of probabilities of timing violation can be increased by the method.
