Reading Characteristics of 2.45GHz Band Passive RFID Tags Attached to a Large Metallic Plate form a Close Distance

(in English) In this paper, we have compared the characteristics of a circularly polarized antenna and linearly polarized antenna when 2.45GHz band passive RFID tags are attached to a large metallic plate. Although reading performance of the RFID tags are degraded, recognition is possible by placing the reader antenna in the vicinity of the tag. Under such environment, we measured |S21| between a reader antenna and a tag represented by a dipole antenna. As a result, we have confirmed the phenomenon that the |S21| of circularly polarized antenna is higher than that of linearly polarized one. We have investigated about a cause and it is revealed that the circularly polarized antenna has nearly llinearly polarized electric field distribution and has good impedance matching characteristics for linearly polarized antenna.
