Improving the Lowest Qaulity of Receivers in Wide-area Wireless Networks by Packet-Level Forward Erasure Correction

(in English) Packet-level erasure correction is considered for downstream packets each of which is delivered from a wireless base station to an individual receiver over a shared wireless link with a single modulation. With exploiting the overhearing property of wireless links, we focus on packet recovery by exclusive-OR (XOR) packet composition-based Forward Erasure Correction (FEC), in order to improve the lowest quality of diverse receivers in a low-cost manner. We propose a simple formula to determine an appropriately optimal packet composition of each redundant packet, based on an experimentally suggested linear relation among the users’ packet loss rates and the users’ packet composition ratios in an optimal redundant packet composition. Simulation results clearly indicate the potential effectiveness of the proposal in a variety of conditions.
