Improvement of QCN Rate Increase Algorithm for Fairness among Flows in Data Center Networks

(in English) In recent large-scale Data Center, two types of network, LAN and SAN are implemented. In order for simple network management, integration of these two networks by Ethernet technology is now hotly discussed. SAN requires significantly low frame loss rate. For integration of LAN and SAN, multi-hop Ethernet configuration is generally used and congestion may occur in traffic hot spot. So, layer 2 congestion control which prevents frame loss in multi-hop Ethernet, QCN Quantized Congestion Notification), is now discussed in IEEE 802.1Qau. In this paper, we evaluate throughput performance of QCN and reveal QCN has technical problem of fairness among active flows. We also reveal that a cause of unfairness is that flow with high transmission rate can increase its transmission rate faster than low transmission rate flow. We propose Adaptive BC LIMIT for QCN where BC LIMIT is adaptively decided according to current transmission rate of flows. Simulation results show that our proposed method significantly improves fairness among QCN flows.
