Effects of the temporal factors on the occurrence of the gap transfer illusion

(in English) Auditory system has a function to make complex sounds a coherent unity, and this function is called auditory organization. This study examines the nature of auditory organization in an illusory phenomenon, i.e., the gap transfer illusion. It was revealed that the occurrence of the gap transfer illusion was strongly determined by temporal factors. For the illusion to occur it is important that onsets and offsets of frequency glides are arranged so that the proximity principle works both in time and in frequency to connect them perceptually for the construction of illusory tones.
