In this paper, we describe a novel speech enhancement technique based on fluctuation lengths of speech signals. Fluctuation length is a new parameter of a signal which we have proposed recently, that corresponds to
the boundary of two classes of frame lengths: frame lengths which interpret the signal as stationary-narrowband signal, and frame lengths which interpret the signal as nonstationary-wideband signal. Because a speech signal is regarded as a stationary signal in terms of short frame length, while as a nonstationary signal in terms of long frame length, speech signal is characteristic compared to some noises in terms of distribution of frequency and fluctuation length. Therefore, it is expected that a method based on frequency and fluctuation length is effective for speech enhancement. In this paper, we consider the frequency-fluctuation-length representation of speech signal, and by
using a property that the representations of speech signals are quite similar each other regardless of the difference of speakers, we designed a unique filter that pass speech signals, and applied it to speech enhancement problem. We conducted an experimental evaluation on the technique, and verified that the method can enhance 0.0 dB speech
signal to around 3 – 8 dB. The experimental result supports the effectiveness of the method. |
