Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Entorhinal grid cells are known to represent a metric of space in multiple scales and expected to play a key role in the integration of self-motion and environmental space. In this study, we present a computational model of spatial processing based on the grid cells. The model consists of spatial modules based on the grid cells including multiple spatial metrics that integrate self-motion, head direction and visual cues in the environment. By using computational experiments, the ability of a putative column of the grid cells in the integration of motion and head direction, the ability of the coding of the three-dimensional space, and the spatial imagery of the environment consisting of multiple objects were evaluated. According to the results, the neural coding based on grid cells is expected to be available for the spatial coding of widely distributed places in both real and imagery environment.
