Error recovery technologies such as ARQ, FEC, and the hybrid scheme which combines ARQ and FEC have been investigated for wired and wireless networks in order to enhance the communication reliability.
A number of schemes have been proposed for single-hop wireless networks. Error recovery mechanisms and their behaviors,
however, have not been well analyzed for wireless multi-hop networks.
This paper analyzes and derives the generalized performance expression of ARQ, FEC and the hybrid scheme in multi-hop wireless networks.
The performance of ARQ-FEC hybrid schemes, in which ARQ and FEC are applied to link-by-link or end-to-end, and are employed in different layers, is quantitatively evaluated by the simulation.
In addition, it proposes the evaluation method for selecting the optimum combination of ARQ and FEC in the hybrid scheme in terms of delivery ratio and latency. |
