Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Dripping water from a faucet is very familiar to us and it provides various nonlinear phenomena including chaos. When its dynamics is sufficiently low dimensional, the essential information about the system is contained in time intervals between successive drippings. Its return plot, however, often takes a form of multi-valued function which causes us difficulty to understand the dripping water as a deterministic dynamical system. In the present study, we employ ISOMAP to extract a new coordinate from finite samples lying on a string-like manifold in the time-delay embedding space, which enables us to describe the dynamics of the dripping water as a one-dimensional map. Here, in order to improve the conventional ISOMAP, we propose an approach based on RANSAC to prune misconnected edges in the neighboring graph. We demonstrate usufullness of our proposed approach by applying it to simulation data of a mass-spring model for the dripping faucet.
