Until now, we have proposed the Layer (L2) loop detection method with a path-marking technique to prevent the loop failure in the L2 network. There are several cases that the loop failure occurs, for example, mis-connection of network cable, mis-configuration of VLAN or redundancy protocol by the network operator or node/equipment failure. An arise of infinite loop in L2 network causes not only excess consumptions of network resources, such as transmission bandwidth and frame switching capability, but also a long service break with huge negative impacts on service assurance in the worst cases by the go-around of the L2 frame increasing the traffic. Therefore, the operators of Carrier Ethernet have put importance on the establishment of infinite loop countermeasure. Our proposed technique, the L2 loop detection method with path-marking technique, is different from the existing technique and can identify the group of switches where the causes of the loop exist, so the failed point can be identified promptly and the time of the restoration from the failure can be decreased. This paper describes the evaluation of the proposed method and shows the feasibility by the software implementation. In addition, by changing the parameters which are the numbers of VLAN and the transmission period of the loop detection frame, the evaluation of the effect to the detection time or detection performance is reported and the loops in all VLAN can be detected within several seconds. |
