[Invited Talk] Wide Area Ubiquitous Network -- Implementation for Ubiquitous Sensor Network --
Daisei Uchida (NTT) IN2011-7
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) One of key techniques to realize ubiquitous network is ubiquitous sensor network (USN) to support machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. The USN in narrow area, such as building and factory indoor space, is supported by shot-range radio communication system such as Radio Frequency Identification (RF-ID) system. The USN in wide area, such as road, park, and river public space, is supported by broadband and cost-richness wireless system such as celluler for man-to-man communication but demanded for cost-effective and long battery-life for wireless terminal such as RF-ID. This paper introduces Wide Area Ubiquitous Network (WAUN) developed by NTT as one of solutions for this demand. WAUN focuses on low-traffic services for M2M communication as the target applications. WAUN can implement both large cell with its radius of several kilo-meters and battery-life of several years for wireless terminal to provide pubic and cost-effective wide area USN.
