PON system is one of the most cost effective optical access network solutions, and Gigabit-class PON systems are already in operation worldwide. In ITU-T, the standardization of B-PON and G-PON has been completed, and standardization of Next Generation PON (NG-PON) which will succeed G-PON is being promoted in recent years. This paper outlines 10Gigabit-class PON (XG-PON) which was standardized in 2010 as the 1st generation NG-PON (NG-PON1). It also introduces the latest discussion trend of the 2nd generation NG-PON (NG-PON2) within FSAN (Full Service Access Network) community. |
