Efficient Construction of Coverage Map Avoiding Positional Gaps
Haruki Izumikawa, Shinobu Nanba, Yoji Kishi (KDDI Labs.) NS2011-19
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A coverage map can be constructed by gleaning radio signal quality information, such as RSRP and RSRQ, with location information from mobile terminals. The greater the position error reported by a terminal, the lower the reliability and the validity of the information. However, it is difficult for a GPS receiver to work correctly while the cellular interface is working for a variety of reasons. In other words, positioning can start only when cellular communication ends. This indicates that a gross positional gap could exist between the location where the radio signal information is logged and the location where the GPS works, especially when the terminal is moving around. In this paper, we propose a novel method to deduce the degree of the gap, i.e., the accuracy of the collected location information. The proposed method enables the coverage map to be more trustworthy and accurate by excluding information with large positional gaps.
