The complex vibration source with diagonal slits of longitudinal-torsional vibration converter has also been applied to ultrasonic motors and ultrasonic welding. However, the example of the application to ultrasonic machining with abrasive is few. New method using the ultrasonic longitudinal and torsional vibration of a hollow-type stepped horn with a diagonal slit vibration converter has been developed for hole machining of brittle materials. In previous studies, the longitudinal and torsional vibration characteristics of the horn and the rod are clarified, and the shape of the diagonal slits is examined. In this study, we compared of the uniform rod with hollow-type stepped horn using the diagonal slits when the conditions of the diagonal slits are constant. As results, the frequency-vibration amplitude characteristic, and the vibration distributions of the ultrasonic vibration source of the hollow-type stepped horn were different than the uniform rod. |
