Analyzing Correlation among TCP Quality Metrics on Measured Traffic Data

(in English) With the spread of provision of variant services on IP network and increase in demand for the network quality assurance, getting a grasp of the network traffic is desirable.
In this paper, we show the results of analyzing the characteristics of the TCP quality of the flows classified by the type of the connection, and the correlation among TCP quality metrics, such as packet retransmission rate, average RTT, and throughput, on the measured traffic data.
Firstly, we present that the TCP quality of the C/S connection is higher than that of the P2P connection, and the median of the throughput in the C/S connection is 2.5 times higher than that of the P2P connection in domestic down stream flows.
Secondly, we show that throughput is higher as the packet retransmission rate and the average RTT are smaller, and throughput is more affected by the average RTT than the packet retransmission rate.
And also we show that how the average RTT affects throughput is different between the domestic connection and the connection with overseas because the congestion levels of those are different even if the average RTT of those are same.
Especially, we show that the TCP quality of the domestic connection is higher than that of the connection with overseas in many cases, but when the average RTT is around 100msec, there are cases that the quality of the connection with overseas is higher than that of the domestic connection.
