Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Interlaced video sequences are widely used for digital terrestrial television systems and camcorders. However, it is not able to directly display these sequences on LCDs, which are compatible only with video sequences in progressive scan. Therefore, a process of deinterlacing is necessarily executed. In this paper, we focus on a deinterlacing scheme based on inpainting, which is called spatial-temporal inpainting method (STIM). STIM interpolates each missing line from its two spatially or temporally adjacent lines using cost optimization. We evaluate the quality of deinterlacing with STIM using various test video sequences and reveal some issues of STIM. In addition, we proposed a novel cost function to tackle one of these issues. The experimental result shows that using the proposed cost function can increase the quality of temporal deinterlacing up to 7dB in PSNR.
