Carotid Artery Imaging in Transverse Plane by Multiple Steered Receiving Beams from Diverging Transmit Beam

(in English) [Background] Transverse cross-sectional imaging of the intima-media complex of the carotid arterial wall is very difficult using conventional linear scanning. The extent of the arterial wall that is clearly imaged is very limited. [Principle] In this study, the use of multi element diverging beam from a linear array transducer in linear sequential scanning was proposed. B-mode image was re-constructed from combinations of many steered receiving beams from multiple transmissions per frame. [Results and Conclusion] Using this method, images obtained from simulations, phantom and in vivo scanning of the carotid artery showed that the clearly imaged region of the wall is wider than that of the conventional linear scanning.
