Chord estimation based on subjective criteria

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many automatic transcription systems have been proposed and developed.
In the automatic transcription system, one of important purposes is to estimate a fundamental frequency of instrumental sound.
However, it is difficult to estimate the fundamental frequencies when the fundamental frequency of an instrumental sound overlaps overtones of another instrumental sound for developing the system to estimate multi fundamental frequencies included in multi-pitch sound signals.
In this report, we investigated how human beings distinguishes the fundamental frequencies by subjective tests.
It was also examined that the observed spectrum and the reconstructed sound wave shape influenced to the perception of chord, and the criteria to distinguish between single tone and chord were defined.
The automatic transcription system based on the proposed criteria was also developed and evaluated.
As results, the correct rate was 83\% for multi-pitch sound signals consisted of sounds in the octave 4 and 5.
Moreover, we compared with the conventional system for estimating four chords, and the results clarified that our system could estimate higher accuracy than conventional one.
