Proposal of Rate Adaptation Scheme based on Average Fade Region Duration for IEEE 802.11

(in English) In IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, which are widely used as wireless LAN standards, multiple modulation rates are available. Then adaptive modulation schemes for IEEE802.11 wireless LAN has been studied in order to select an adequate modulation rate according to channel condition. ARF, which is known as a practical adaptive modulation scheme, has two drawbacks: 1) unnecessary and undesirable rate decrease due to frame collisions, and 2) low following capability to fluctuation of channel condition. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive modulation scheme based on CARA, named CARA-FE, which estimates adequate timing for rate increase by learning average rate region duration. Simulation results show that CARA-FE achieves higher throughput than existing schemes, ARF, AMARF, and CARA.
