The primary auditory processing during emotional speech perception -- A magnetoencephalography study --

(in English) Brain mechanisms involved in emotional prosody (EP) processing have not been clarified. Here, we used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to investigate the primary auditory processing of EP in the brain with high spatial and temporal resolutions. The study consisted of three measurement sessions, in which subjects’ attention was directed to either (a) the emotional features (E-task) or (b) the phonetic features (P-task) of the speech stimuli andT (c) Ignore emotional features and phonetics feature (I-task). The amplitudes of P2-P3 event-related components, which were observed in the latencies around 0.16 s after the onset of speech stimuli, increased significantly in the E-task condition. These changes were observed in the sensors covering the right posterior region of Superior temporal gyrus. TThe results suggest that the primary auditory processing involved emotional prosody processing takes place as early as P2-P3 Tevent-related componentsT after the onset of speech stimuli in the sensory specific area in the right posterior superior-temporal region.
