Low driving voltage in reverse mode liquid crystal displays

(in English) Reverse-mode liquid crystal devices with twisted nematic orientation have been prepared using several reactive mesogens (RM) and nematic liquid crystals, and electro-optical properties have been measured. A driving voltage increased with a concentration of RM. It also strongly depends on the RM material. By optimization of materials and those mixing ratio, the driving voltage can be reduced to about 4.8 V. However, the liquid crystal with large dielectric anisotropy does not always allow reducing the driving voltage. It indicates that the interaction between RM and liquid crystal materials strongly affects to the driving voltage.
