A study on suppression of depth estimation error for free-view point image synthesis

(in English) In free-viewpoint image synthesis, depth estimation error causes artifacts and quality loss in the synthesized images. This paper proposes a novel method for suppression of depth estimation error using MRF and shows that the method is effective for improving the
quality of output images. Although the smoothing factor of MRF has an effect on error suppression, it does not work if there are textureless regions or occlusion areas, etc. We put a weight on the depth likelihood and correct the likelihood of pixels that give a poor depth result for error suppression. Firstly, depth accuracy is estimated for each pixel. Then, poor-accuracy depth likelihood is corrected using the accurate depth of other pixels with similar color features.
Experimental results show the effectiveness of our method.
