Network reliability is needed for communication networks, as they are an important social infrastructure. However, we face risk of failures on links or routers; therefore, a lot of methods to design a resilient communication network have been researched and developed to overcome failures so far. According to change from a telephone network to the Internet and diversification in network service, appropriate measures to evaluate the reliability of a target network and service were changed; therefore, new network design methods to consider the measures have been required. As a good network design method is an efficient algorithm for a network design problem defined as an optimization problem, network design methods have been developing in tandem with the graph theory and the optimization theory. In this paper, we overviews the network design problems and the related results. |
