The probability distribution of backscattering intensity in SAR image of ocean surface in the L- and X-band parallel polarizations are analyzed in terms of the non-Gaussianity using the difference from the log-normal distribution and the normalized 2nd moment. Though in the X-band parallel polarizations, the non-Gaussianities represent the incidence angle dependency, in the L-band, the incidence angle dependency is quite weak. In the X-band, the non-Gaussianity also depends on the polarization. In the L-band the difference of non-Gaussianity between the parallel polarizations is small. The non-Gaussianity in the X-band is stronger than that in the L-band. Moreover, the non-Gaussianity is almost independent to the illumination azimuth (relative direction of illumination to the wind direction). The difference of non-Gaussianity suggests the difference of scattering mechanism on ocean surface. |
