Motion detection is an important task for computer vision.
Motion detection is also an important task for animals.
The underlying neural mechanism of motion detection was thoroughly investigated and some aspects of the mechanism were revealed.
If we can use such mechanisms for computer vision, it can be expected to achieve more robust and accurate motion detection, not only the computational understanding of human vision system.
In this paper, we propose a model of speed-tuned motion detectors based on previously reported observation of early visual cortex and simple motion detectors.
To generate speed selectivity, we combined output of multiple motion detectors and each detector was tuned to a spatiotemporal frequency independently.
In experiments, using sine wave gratings and bar stimulas, the slant of spectral receptive field and speed selectivity are confirmed. |
