[Invited Talk] Advanced Quality of Service Controls by Cross Layer Approach

(in English) ICT systems, generally, follow hierarchical communication protocol structure, where enhance the feasibility due to the layer-independent function design at the expense of global optimization to some degree. On the other hand, cross-layer approaches aiming at best solution as optimal as possible by cooperating multiple layer controls each other have attracted strong attention, whose main target includes wireless network environment with many stringent constraints. Actually, these approaches are incorporated into various communication systems aggressively. In this paper, especially focusing on the multimedia communication, the QoS-related research activities based on cross-layer approach are overviewed. Then, we introduce some of our specific researches on so-called Upper-to-Lower and Lower-to-Upper cross-layer approaches, and furthermore, the bi-directional one, respectively. Finally, future research directions are briefly discussed.
