Picking System Based on Real Time Batching

(in English) In warehouse operation, the cost of order-picking is considered about 70 percent of total operating costs. Improving the sequence of picking according to picking path length is important for the reduction of the tour time.
In this paper, we propose a system that provides the shortest tour route of a picker for picking needs in real time using the estimated position of the picker and position data of picking items, and presents the tour route to the picker immediately. In the proposed system, we apply a color information approach that uses a camera to compute the distance between the picker and picking items in real time during the picking process. Then, the position of the picker is estimated in real time. Using the estimated position , the proposed system determines the shortest tour path which will be applied to picking scheduling and updates the picking tour path immediately during the picking process. Simulation experiments ran in 2 different picking limit which limit to 10 items and 20 items for each cart. This results proved that the proposed method improved almost 10% and 20% of the average picking time for each picking limit, comparing with the conventional method.
