We have proposed a novel type of the optically-clocked all-optical flip-flop using a coupled-mode distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser diode for the future digital photonics. This device consists of two saturable absorbers (SAs), one gain region, and four DBRs. The DBRs act as wavelength filters which separate set or reset signals from the gain region, and digital output waveforms can be obtained. Several numerical analyses based on the coupled rate-equations are performed. We investigate bistability, static characteristics, and the dynamic optically-clocked flip-flop operation of the device. |
