Experimental Study on Ring Resonator in Two Dimensional Photonic Crystal Structure by Scale Model

(in English) For ring-like resonator in two-dimensional photonic crystal structure, the transmission characteristics with resonances were experimentally confirmed for microwave frequency. Measurement was done by using a model for frequency range from 3.6 to 4.2 GHz. Dielectric cylinders, which were made of ceramics, with diameter ϕ=7.5[mm], height h =29.1[mm], lattice period P=26.5[mm], and dielectric constant ε_r=36 around 4 GHz, were situated between ground and cover aluminum plates. Ring-like resonator was situated between a pair of straight waveguides as input/output ports, in which the separation distance between straight waveguides and a side of the resonator was one row of cylinder. First, in order to ensure that the microwave could be propagated along a waveguide, an isolated straight waveguide was measured. Next, we measured the ring-like resonator. Though transmission was observed along with straight input/output waveguide for almost all frequency range, typical frequencies which coupled to the resonator could not transmit through the straight output waveguide. Those typical signals were transmitted to output waveguides which were coupled by the resonator. The resonance frequency was well interpreted by wavelength in the waveguide, which were measured by first part of the experiment. By applying this characteristic, a circuit that separates the signal with specific frequency for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system can be composed.
