[Tutorial Lecture] Application of Multi-hop cellular network: Relay system in LTE-Advanced

(in English) The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has standardized the Long Term Evolution (LTE) -Advanced system for further improving the capacity and the data rate of the mobile communication system to cope with the rapidly increasing mobile data traffic due to the increasing market penetration of smart phones and the diversification of mobile services. Relay techniques considered for LTE-Advanced are intended to extend the system coverage and improve the system throughput. Supporting relays provides cost-efficient cell deployment, because wireless access is exploited for the backhaul connection between RNs and the core network via an eNB. Relay can improve spectral efficiency by reusing identical frequency bands in macro and relay cells. In this paper, we report LTE-Advanced relay techniques being specified in 3GPP RAN Working Grout 1(RAN1).
