By utilizing a leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW), an acoustooptic (AO) interaction with a lower driving power can be expected because the LSAW generally has a higher electromechanical coupling factor (K2) than the ordinary Rayleigh wave. However, little is known about AO interaction utilizing the LSAW. In this study, an AO Bragg deflector was fabricated using Ti-diffused 64°-roteted Y-cut LiNbO3 for the LSAW, and the properties of Bragg diffraction were investigated. The LSAW power required for maximum diffraction P100 was determined theoretically and experimentally, and was compared with that of an AO Bragg deflector using Ti-diffused 128°-roteted Y-cut LiNbO3 for the Rayleigh wave. Unfortunately, the utilization of the LSAW was found to be not suitable for AO Bragg diffraction because the electric field of the guided wave is perpendicular to the direction of the particle displacement of the LSAW for both TE and TM modes. However, the theoretical estimation of the AO interaction due to the LSAW was successfully performed. |
