A BCI using FSK-modulated visual stimuli

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A brain computer interface based on steady-state visual evoked potentials has some issues; the number of available frequencies of visual stimili is insufficient when increasing commands, and commands have different classification accuracies that can decline the usability. We propose a method that defines binary codes with stimuli flickering at two distinct frequencies and assigns those codes to the commands. This method can be regarded as the one that modulates a visual stimulus of a brain computer interface using frequency-shift keying in the digital communications. In this paper, we conducted online BCI experiments to compare the proposed method with the existing method. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a reliable BCI attributed to stable accuracy and even probabilities of inputting commands.
