Multi-Antenna System Using Radiation Patterns Wisely
Daisuke Uchida, Hiroyuki Arai (Yokohama National Univ.) AP2011-121
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report presents a technique to enhance transmission characteristics of multi-antenna systems using radiation pattern wisely in indoor base stations. Previously, we have studied enhancement effects of MIMO channel capacity by SNR increment, and in this report, we apply directional antennas to MIMO systems. First, this report describes basic theory of our target, and set the specific parameters for HPBW, main beam direction, and tilt angle of the radiation patterns, using ray-tracing propagation analysis. Then, we show the enhancement effects of channel capacity in an actual environment using the antenna fabricated on the basis of above design guidelines. Furthermore, this report shows a novel switched beam technique considering above design guidelines and describes the diversity effects and the possible application to MIMO systems.
