Online/offline Authentication Protocol in Car to Car/Infrastructure Communication Systems

(in English) Services such as sending a pre-crash sensing warning and traffic condition warning are expected to be provided in car-to-car/infrastructure (C2X) communication systems. It is necessary to ensure message confidentiality and integrity. When a message is encrypted by using a symmetric key or HMAC (Keyed-Hashing for Message Authentication Code) is generated by using a symmetric key, authentication between RSU (Road Side Unit) and OBU (On-board Unit) and key distribution protocol is necessary. It takes much time for OBU to authenticate RSU by using an asymmetric key because OBU does not have a high processing. Therefore, we propose the online/offline authentication protocol. OBU calculates a part of authentication processing in advance. When OBU authenticate RSU, OBU uses the calculation result. Therefore, OBU can reduce authentication processing. We obtained the perspective of 99% reduction of remainder operation and 40% of hash function.
