A PAPR reduction method on digital predistortion linearizer for compensating frequency dependent distortion components

(in English) This paper proposes a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method applied to a digital predistortion linearizer (DPDL) with a frequency characteristic compensator in order to further improve the inter-modulation distortion (IMD) components of a base station power amplifier (PA). The compensator generates in-band and out-of-band IMD compensation components. The point of the proposed method is that the compensator controls an amplitude and phase of the in-band IMD compensation component to reduce the PAPR of the input signal to the PA as well as to control those of the out-of-band IMD compensation components to compensate for the out-of-band IMD components. The DPDL can further compensate for the out-of-band IMD components when the PAPR is reduced if the output-backoff (OBO) of the PA is the same. This paper elucidates the phase of the in-band IMD compensation component to minimize the PAPR. Experimental results with a 5-MHz LTE signal and 2-GHz band 1-W class PA show that the proposed method can reduce the PAPR by 1.2 dB and can improve the adjacent channel leakage power ratio by 1.2 dB whereas the proposed method degrades the error vector magnitude by 5.1 % compared with the conventional method with the OBO of 10.2 dB.
